Meet Jerrilyn

Hello! I am so glad you’re here. I know finding a healing practitioner who can meet your needs is no easy task, so let me introduce myself. I’m Jerrilyn. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, licensed to practice clinical social work in Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia. I am also a traditional healer.

about me

A little bit of self-disclosure - years and years ago, as I was preparing to graduate college, I called my mom, really upset. I said, “Mom, I don’t know what I am good at.” She replied, “You’re good with people.” At the time, I wasn’t sure what that meant, but now it all makes sense. I am passionate about working with people. More than that, I am honored to support and witness the healing journeys people take.

In 2011, I received my master’s in social work from the University of Chicago, which gave me an understanding of the connections between individual and community healing. Several years later I completed initiation to become a sangoma, aka., a traditional healer within the Zulu lineage, which furthered my healing, expanded my relationship to my own spirit, and gave me new ways to approach healing with others.

These paths have greatly informed my work and have gifted me with deep compassion for the human condition and an ongoing desire to help others align with their authentic selves. And, over the years, I have been honored to witness and be part of the beautiful transformations of those who once came to me hoping to “just feel better one day”.

Why I Focus on Women:

While I have had the privilege of working with and learning from diverse populations for over 10 years, my practice focuses on women who are overwhelmed, in a rut and exploring their life’s purpose. I understand the unique challenges we face as women impact our ability to be our most authentic selves and can prevent us from having the lives we want.

These challenges include reconciling our need to be heard with our fear of taking up too much space; existing in a society that judges us by the sizes and shapes of our bodies, the color of our skin, our hairstyles, and the sound of our voices; overcoming thoughts that say, “I am an imposter”; and managing the effects of our adverse experiences while carrying the weight of the world on our shoulders.

Although I focus on women for the reasons I named above, my healing practice is inclusive, and I am comfortable working with adults from all walks of life for whom I’m a good fit.
